This project reveals human passivity toward nature and the guilt that follows its destruction. Pyrofage expresses the emotional emptiness and loss of belonging felt after disasters like forest fires. The work invites the viewer to witness this loss and feel their disconnection from nature.
A box-like structure hangs from the ceiling, covered in red tulle to suggest the intensity of fire. Inside, guilt-inducing phrases are placed. A forest fire video is projected onto the tulle, creating the feeling of being inside the burning forest.
The biggest challenge was creating a space where guilt could be physically felt. The project shifted from abstract ideas to direct imagery, using projection to evoke stronger emotions.
Viewers become witnesses, surrounded by destruction. The work invites them to feel responsible and reflect on their role in nature’s loss. It offers an emotional space where helplessness becomes part of the experience.
